Nirmal is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA), a licensed auditor and a registered insolvency practitioner.

Nirmal has acted in an advisory capacity for a number of business enterprises. His specialisms include independent business reviews, due diligence reviews, share valuations, providing litigation support and acting as expert witness in Court cases.

As a Licensed Insolvency Practitioner, Nirmal is involved in:

• Formal insolvency appointments
• Corporate reconstructions and turnarounds
• Asset tracing and recovery
• Negotiations for business acquisitions and disposals

He has specialist skills in conducting insurance loss adjustment work on behalf of insurance companies and has a particular interest in consequential (loss of profit) claims.

Prior to founding UHY & Co in January 2016, Nirmal was the founder of UHY Heeralall (previously also a member of UHY) from March 2004 to December 2015.

Nirmal was previously a manager in the audit & business advisory services department of PwC (Mauritius). During his five-year spell at PwC, he worked on a number of major audit and consulting assignments both in Mauritius and Africa, several of which were funded by donor agencies such as IPPF, UNDP etc. He was also part of a PwC team which was involved in the drafting of the internal audit manual of the Government of Mauritius and a scrutiny of the efficiency of vehicle fleet maintenance in the public sector.

Nirmal worked as a trainee for various firms of accountants in the United Kingdom from 1975 to 1983, while studying for his professional qualifications.
